Awareness at B35
No matter where in society, whether on the bus, in the supermarket, or at parties, people encounter each other everywhere. And time and again, abusive, transgressive, or hurtful behavior occurs, whether consciously or unconsciously. This can take the form of racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, transphobia, and/or queerphobia.
This behavior is not tolerated at our events, and we actively work to prevent it. We are counting on you to help us! We believe that awareness is always a collective responsibility. That is why we ask all our visitors to be mindful of themselves and those around them.
B35 is a space created by queers, for queers. Allies and friends are, of course, also welcome. Please behave respectfully and help make sure this space remains a supportive and empowering environment for queer people.
To help everyone address you respectfully, take a pronoun sticker, write your pronouns on it, and wear it visibly on your clothing or body.
We also ask that you do not take photos or videos at events. Everyone should have a safe space to celebrate, and not everyone wants to appear on Instagram or other platforms. Not everyone is out everywhere, and in general, taking photos of others without their consent is not acceptable.
Awareness Team
At events, there is an Awareness Team available to support you. The team consists of two people who can assist in cases of discrimination, boundary violations, or other emergencies and crisis situations. They are also there if you need a quiet space to step away or someone to talk to. You can recognize them by their purple vests. If you don’t see anyone, you can also reach out to us at the bar or entrance.
At this point, we want to note that the Awareness Team is predominantly white and able-bodied, and not all team members are queer. This means that we, as the Awareness Team, do not have experience or expertise in all forms of discrimination. If needed, we can provide contact information for partner organizations that have different perspectives and experiences regarding societal inequalities. We strive to dismantle existing hierarchies and discriminatory structures within our own spaces. We know we are not perfect — so if you have suggestions or feedback, please feel free to share them, even afterwards!
Awareness Room
The Awareness Room offers a quiet retreat for anyone feeling overwhelmed, providing a safe space to step away from stressful situations. It can be used for private conversations or simply to take a moment to rest and recharge. This space is intended for use exclusively by the Awareness Team.
Located opposite the kitchen, the Awareness Room offers a peaceful space to take a break and recharge. The room is furnished with comfortable seating and reclining options. It is kept locked for privacy, with the Awareness Team holding the key.
Room Equipment:
- Soft toys and blankets
- Tissues
- Space to lie down
- Electric kettle, hot water bottles, tea, and cups
- First aid kit, band-aids
- Snacks: a selection of chocolate, gum, crackers, glucose tablets, and vegan-friendly treats
- Contact numbers for follow-up support
- Information and support resources for anyone in need
- List of taxi service phone numbers
Safer Spaces
We want Bambule35 to be a discrimination-aware space. Above all, it should be an empowering environment for queer people, where they can feel safe, welcome, and comfortable while celebrating. However, boundary violations, harassment, and discrimination can still happen — there is no completely “Safe Space.” That’s why it is especially important for everyone to contribute to creating a Safer Space, a space that is sensitive to discrimination and respectful of all. Building and maintaining this space is a shared responsibility, and as the Awareness Team, we are committed to supporting and guiding this effort.
